The AWE Tuning Touring Edition Axle-Back Exhaust for the BMW M2 M235i and M240i replaces the rear section of the factory system with a straight-through muffler design that improves exhaust flow while maintaining a controlled sound profile. It uses AWE’s 180 Technology to target and reduce drone at cruising speeds, allowing the turbocharged inline-six to produce a deeper, more refined tone under throttle without adding constant cabin noise. As an axle-back setup, it retains the factory mid-pipe, making installation simpler while still offering a noticeable change in sound character. Sound waves, carried by these exhaust gasses, bounce off the walls of the reflection chambers. By controlling the size and location of the ports and the chambers, AWE can also control when the sound waves exit the chambers. The specific timing of when the reflected sound waves rejoin the main exhaust flow creates a one-hundred-and-eighty-degree out-of-phase sound wave that cancels out problematic frequencies. What is 180 Technology?

Sound waves carried by these exhaust gases bounce off the walls of the reflection chambers. Depending on the sound requirements of each vehicle, AWE’s acoustic engineers adjust the size and location of the ports and chambers. Exhaust Tips

• Each exhaust system is equipped with three 4.5” double-walled, slash-cut tips, available in chrome silver or diamond black, each featuring a stamped AWE logo. The tips are individually adjustable, allowing for customization of their depth into the bumper based on personal preference.

Nope, It’s Not Valved

• During research and development, AWE conducted an extensive evaluation of the factory valve’s behavior under various driving conditions. They determined that there is no significant change in volume between modes requiring a valve. The valve remains closed only in comfort mode, opening upon reaching a throttle threshold. In Sport and Sport+ modes, the valve stays open, with Sport+ introducing burbles from the ECU. In the stock configuration, the exhaust routes through the side mufflers when the valve is closed to reduce interior volume and drone-prone frequencies, and through the center when the valve is open.
