It combines AWE’s 180 Technology® with additional mid-pipe resonators to control low-frequency drone and smooth out harsher tones, which is especially noticeable during steady cruising. When pushed, the exhaust produces a deeper, more defined note that stays composed rather than overly sharp or boomy. The quad diamond black tips give the rear a darker, more understated finish that contrasts well with lighter paint colors while still fitting cleanly within the factory valance. Built from T304L stainless steel and designed as a direct bolt-on, it retains compatibility with the factory valve system, making it a practical setup for drivers who want a more engaging sound without compromising daily usability.

• AWE 180 Technology® works by directing exhaust gases through carefully positioned ports into reflection chambers, where sound waves bounce off the walls.
• By adjusting the size and placement of the ports and chambers, engineers control when reflected waves rejoin the main exhaust flow, producing a 180-degree out-of-phase wave that cancels specific undesirable frequencies.

What is 180 Technology?

Exhaust Tips

• Each exhaust system comes with three 4.5-inch double-walled, slash-cut tips in either chrome silver or diamond black, each stamped with the AWE logo, and the tips can be individually adjusted to set their projection from the bumper for a personalized fit.

Nope, It’s Not Valved

• During development, AWE thoroughly evaluated the factory exhaust valve across a range of driving conditions and found no significant change in overall volume between modes. The valve stays closed only in Comfort mode and opens once a throttle threshold is reached. In Sport and Sport+ modes, it remains open, with Sport+ adding ECU-controlled burbles. In the stock setup, exhaust flows through the side mufflers when the valve is closed to reduce cabin volume and minimize drone, and through the center section when open for a more direct path.

Conversion Kits

• AWE designed the system for easy conversion between Track and Touring Editions, allowing interior sound levels to be adjusted as needed.

Equipping a downpipe

• AWE Touring Edition Exhaust offers both resonated and non-resonated configurations.
• For BMWs with a stock downpipe, the non-resonated option is recommended.
• If the vehicle has an aftermarket downpipe, the resonated configuration is preferred.
• Switching from a stock downpipe to an aftermarket setup later is straightforward using the AWE Resonator Conversion Kit to replace the midsection.
