• The 2.9L engine in the RS 5 generates exhaust gasses which pass through carefully positioned ports and enter the resonator with AWE 180 Technology®. As the sound waves are conducted by the exhaust, they hit the inside walls of the reflection chambers and are reflected. Through regulating the ports’ measurement and placement, as well as the chambers, the timing of the reflected sound waves is managed. This results in a wave subtly out of phase in relation to the main exhaust, which eliminates volumes of unwished-for frequencies. 180 Technology

• AWE’s 180 Technology(r) eliminates unwanted reverberations from exhausts, allowing for performance levels to be maximized with an AWE signature note. With this single specialised patent, you can both increase power and sound.
• AWE’s patented 180 Technology® functions in this way: As exhaust gases come out of the engine to an AWE 180 Technology®-installed resonator, they travel through specifically-positioned openings and into reflection compartments.
• The acoustic engineers at AWE manipulate the size and position of the port and chambers in order to create the desired sound for each vehicle. This adjustment further enables them to control the timing of when the reflected sound waves are re-incorporated into the exhaust flow, developing a 180-degree out-of-phase sound wave and thus cancelling out any disagreeable frequencies.
