The AWE Track Edition Catback Exhaust for the G8X BMW M3 and M4 takes a more direct approach by removing rear mufflers and relying on a straight-through layout, which significantly increases volume and brings out the raw character of the S58 inline-six. Without the added sound attenuation of a Touring or valved system, it delivers a sharper, more immediate exhaust note with pronounced pops on overrun and a constant presence throughout the rev range. It’s built from T304L stainless steel with clean welds and routing that follows the factory path for proper clearance and fitment. The chrome silver tips keep the finish simple and in line with an OEM-style appearance, sitting neatly within the rear valance. This setup suits drivers who prioritize sound and engagement over restraint, especially in less restrictive driving environments.

Track Edition Exhaust

• The Track Edition from AWE offers the same level of engineering and performance as its SwitchPath™ option, but at a more economical price point and without the rear muffler valve. This allows for an always-on loud and powerful sound, while cutting 22 lbs off your total weight. If that’s what you’re looking for, then this steel version is the way to go.
• Equipped with AWE valve simulators to ensure your factory exhaust valve motors operate as expected, the Track Edition Exhaust – which is also 50 state legal like its SwitchPath™ counterpart – is designed to make your engine control unit (ECU) happy, thus leading to a happier life.
• The Non-Resonated Performance Mid Pipes – Remove the factory intermediate area and substitute it with two 3”, non-resonated mid-pipes intended to increase the fierce factor. Couple the mid-pipes to the SwitchPath™ or Track Edition Exhausts if you prefer the excitement to commence directly after the OEM secondary catalysts.

What is 180 Technology?

• AWE Tuning’s patented 180 Technology works as follows: As exhaust gases exit the engine and flow into a resonator equipped with AWE’s 180 Technology, they pass through strategically located ports and into reflection chambers. Sound waves carried by these exhaust gases bounce off the walls of the reflection chambers. Depending on the sound requirements of each vehicle, AWE’s acoustic engineers adjust the size and location of the ports and chambers. By controlling these key elements, AWE Tuning can manage when the sound waves exit the chambers. The precise timing of when the reflected sound waves rejoin the main exhaust flow creates a one-hundred-and-eighty-degree out-of-phase sound wave that cancels out problematic frequencies.

Exhaust Tips

• Each exhaust system is equipped with three 4.5” double-walled, slash-cut tips, available in chrome silver or diamond black, each featuring a stamped AWE logo. The tips are individually adjustable, allowing for customization of their depth into the bumper based on personal preference.

Nope, It’s Not Valved

• During research and development, AWE conducted an extensive evaluation of the factory valve’s behavior under various driving conditions. They determined that there is no significant change in volume between modes requiring a valve. The valve remains closed only in comfort mode, opening upon reaching a throttle threshold. In Sport and Sport+ modes, the valve stays open, with Sport+ introducing burbles from the ECU. In the stock configuration, the exhaust routes through the side mufflers when the valve is closed to reduce interior volume and drone-prone frequencies, and through the center when the valve is open.

Conversion Kits

• AWE has made it simple to convert between Track and Touring Editions if a change in interior volume is desired later.

• Mid Pipes – AWE’s Non-Resonated Performance Mid-Pipes have been designed to be exclusively used in combination with AWE Exhausts. As cut points may not be compatible to those of other exhaust manufacturers, it is not guaranteed that these pipes would work with these other exhaust systems.
• Exhausts – The inlet adapters included on AWE Exhausts are used to pair the exhaust to the factory mid-section. However, when using AWE Mid-Pipes with either the SwitchPath™ or Track Edition Exhausts, these adapters are not necessary. As AWE Exhausts have been designed with various cut points, the compatibility of our exhausts with mid-pipes from other brands cannot be guaranteed.
