Does the SOUL Performance Valved Exhaust fit my 991.1 Carrera?

It fits the 991.1 Porsche 911 Carrera, Carrera S, and Carrera GTS. The Carrera S and GTS fit with or without factory Porsche Sport Exhaust; cars without the PSE button use the factory vacuum valves and the included valve controller. The base Carrera fits only when it has factory PSE.

Do I need the factory Porsche Sport Exhaust?

Not necessarily. On the Carrera S and GTS, a non-PSE car works using the factory vacuum valves and the valve controller that SOUL includes for those configurations. The base Carrera is the exception: it must have factory PSE to run this system. Choose the correct option for your car when ordering.

How does it change the sound?

With the valves open, the exhaust runs a straight 2.5-inch path to the tips for a louder, Cup-car-inspired tone. With them closed, flow routes through the factory side mufflers for a refined note, and the built-in Helmholtz resonators cut the 3,000 to 3,500 rpm drone, which is most noticeable on PDK cars.

Does it require an ECU tune?

No. The SOUL Performance Valved Exhaust is a direct bolt-on and does not require a tune. It works with the car's factory engine management, whether you control the valves through the factory PSE switch or the included controller.

What is it made from?

It is built from mandrel-bent .065-inch wall T304L stainless steel with 2.5-inch piping and an X-pipe, back-purged and TIG-welded in-house in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania. It reuses your factory tips or upgrades to polished or black chrome, and it is backed by a lifetime warranty.

Is professional installation required?

SOUL strongly recommends professional installation. The rear bumper must be removed to fit the system, and non-PSE cars add valve-controller wiring and vacuum connections. A direct bolt-on by nature, it still calls for a qualified shop to ensure correct fitment and a proper seal.

SOUL Performance Valved Exhaust for 991.1 Porsche 911 Carrera, S & GTS

The 991.1 Carrera Valved Performance Exhaust System from SOUL Performance is meticulously crafted with the professional enthusiast in mind. When the valves are open, the exhaust gases are able to flow freely through an unobstructed path, resulting in a captivating flat six symphony that will send shivers down your spine. Whether you’re on your way to an important client meeting or going out for a special dinner, simply keep the valves closed, and you’ll experience a refined and understated tone, as the factory side mufflers effectively carry out their job. For those concerned about drone on their PDK-equipped vehicle, rest assured that this system will exceed your expectations, providing a drone-free experience that leaves no room for disappointment. Many 991.1 Carrera owners find themselves underwhelmed by the sound and performance of their stock sport exhaust system; it simply doesn’t deliver the desired level of satisfaction. In response to this, they have embarked on a mission to create an exhaust system that possesses a true Jekyll and Hyde personality, perfectly aligning with the Carrera’s character of being a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Their primary objective was to design a system that allows for a straight flow path when the valves are open. By employing larger tubing diameter, smooth radius bends, and incorporating an X-pipe with optimized crossover flow characteristics, their exhaust system significantly improves throttle response and performance. These design enhancements maximize the exhaust scavenging effects, leading to increased volumetric efficiency and ultimately enhancing the overall driving experience.

Development & Testing

Their objective was to strike a balance between enhancing the daily driving comfort and preserving the race-inspired tone and straight-through exhaust design. They recognized that simply incorporating a larger resonator would not achieve the desired outcome, as it would necessitate revisions to accommodate clearances and potentially compromise the high-flow design principles of their exhaust system. Moreover, the addition of higher-flowing aftermarket headers, such as their Long Tube Street Headers, to an already aggressive rear system, without proper sound attenuating features, could potentially lead to an excessively loud and potentially unpleasant driving experience.
For customers who have combined their rear exhaust with upgraded headers, it becomes crucial to carefully consider and engineer the exhaust system accordingly. In such a configuration, the inclusion of Helmholtz resonators, also known as anti-drone tubes, can be an effective solution for reducing undesirable frequencies when properly engineered and utilized. In the case of the 991.1 Carrera, there is a specific RPM range, typically between 3,000 and 3,500rpm, where drone may become apparent when higher flowing exhaust components are added. Their objective was to eliminate these unwanted frequencies within that range, while also ensuring a smooth transition from valves closed to open, particularly on vehicles equipped with the factory Porsche Sport Exhaust (PSE) system.
After rigorous testing and refinement, they have arrived at their final design, which has consistently delivered exceptional results on this particular application and met their stringent standards for sound quality and drivability. While the mathematical calculations for creating Helmholtz resonators can be performed, it is the thoughtful incorporation of these resonators into the overall design that truly makes a significant difference in achieving optimal performance.

Construction

Every exhaust is meticulously constructed in-house using mandrel bent T304L stainless steel with a substantial.065″ wall thickness. Once built, each exhaust undergoes rigorous quality checks to ensure its impeccable craftsmanship and performance. The welding process employs back purged TIG welding techniques, guaranteeing optimal weld penetration and ensuring the exhaust’s long-lasting durability.

Sound

The sound produced by their system is undeniably aggressive. One of the primary advantages of their exhaust system is the straight and unobstructed path, allowing exhaust gases to flow freely from the 2.5″ piping to the tips when the valves are open. However, they have also dedicated significant effort to infusing extra refinement into the system, ensuring that it perfectly matches the premium experience synonymous with Porsche.
The inclusion of an X-pipe in both open and closed valve positions further contributes to smoothing out the sound profile. Overall, they are extremely pleased with the results achieved, and they are confident that you will be too. When the valves are open, the system’s free-flowing nature delivers a Cup car-inspired sound, characterized by a greater volume and an abundance of crackles and burbles during deceleration. This system is tailored for those seeking an added level of aggression, accessible with a simple press of a button. Conversely, when the valves are closed, the tone maintains a reasonable and refined quality, ensuring minimal drone while still allowing the distinctive flat six sound to be heard.

Bolt On & Go

After being meticulously tested in a fixture to ensure impeccable fitment, each exhaust is carefully foam packed to guarantee its safe arrival in perfect condition. In addition, comprehensive installation instructions are included in the package, facilitating a straightforward installation process that can be easily carried out by most DIY enthusiasts. High-grade hardware is provided to ensure a reliable and secure installation.
This system seamlessly integrates with the factory Porsche Sport Exhaust (PSE) controls, allowing for convenient control of the exhaust modes. However, it is worth noting that this system can also be utilized on non-PSE equipped S / GTS cars by incorporating a SOUL valve controller kit during installation.

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
