BBS FI-R Gloss Platinum Wheel (20×9 +35) for 4S Audi R8 and LB724 Lamborghini Huracán

The FI-R Gloss Platinum Wheel is BBS putting motorsport forging under the front axle of a mid-engined V10, in the finish that lets the engineering show. BBS has built race wheels since the 1970s, and the FI-R uses the same multi-stage die-forging: a single billet of aluminum pressed into a monoblock whose grain structure follows the finished shape of the wheel rather than running straight through it. At 17.9lbs in 20×9 the saving is felt at the steering wheel first, on cars that already turn in with very little delay. Gloss Platinum is the bright machined silver of the range, which picks up the spoke relief in sunlight and reads as a precision component rather than a styling choice.

Forged Construction

BBS die-forges the FI-R under up to 18 million pounds of force, starting from a billet of 6000 series aluminum or the company’s own magnesium alloy depending on the application. Forging closes the porosity that casting leaves behind and aligns the grain along the load paths the wheel actually sees, so the rim section can be made thinner without giving up strength. The spokes, hub face and barrel are one continuous piece of metal, with no bolts, no welds and no joint to fatigue.

Weight and Design

Each cross spoke carries a relief hole that takes material out of a low-load area, and the back faces are milled to the minimum section the structure needs. 17.9lbs for a 20 inch front is low, and at the front axle of a car with this little mass over it, the reduction in gyroscopic resistance is the part a driver notices immediately on turn-in.

Fitment

This is the front wheel in the BBS FI-R program shared by the Audi R8 and the Lamborghini Huracán, which run the same 5×112 pattern on a common platform. The matching rear is the 20×11.5 +40. Rather than machining a single fixed bore, BBS lists this wheel under its PFS fitment system, so the hub ring is matched to the vehicle it is going on.

Notes

Sold as a single wheel, not a set of four
This is the front axle fitment, and a full set needs two of these plus two of the matching 20×11.5 +40 rear
Pairs with the BBS FI-R Gloss Platinum 20×11.5 +40 rear wheel (FI141PG)
The same front wheel is also listed in Diamond Black and Satin Black
Browse the full BBS FI-R range
This wheel uses the BBS PFS hub ring system rather than a fixed bore, so confirm the vehicle when ordering so the correct ring is matched
TPMS sensors are not supplied with the wheel
Confirm caliper clearance before ordering if the vehicle runs an aftermarket brake package
Vehicles that have been lowered or otherwise modified need enough clearance between the fender and the suspension components. Tire size and alignment should both be checked against the revised setup.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the FI-R Gloss Platinum Wheel in 20×9 +35 fit? It is the front axle fitment for the 4S Audi R8 and the LB724 Lamborghini Huracán, both of which run a 5×112 bolt pattern on a shared platform. BBS lists the two cars under the same FI-R application. Confirm the brake package before ordering, because caliper geometry varies between the specifications.
Is the FI-R forged or cast? Forged. BBS die-forges the FI-R from a single billet under up to 18 million pounds of force, producing a one-piece monoblock with no bolts or welds. Forging closes the internal porosity that casting leaves behind, which is what allows the rim section to be made thinner and lighter without giving up strength.
What is PFS? PFS is the BBS Precision Fitment System. Instead of machining one fixed center bore into the wheel, BBS sets the bore with a hub ring matched to the application, which is how a single wheel part number covers both the R8 and the Huracán. Tell us the vehicle when ordering so the correct ring is specified.
How much does the 20×9 FI-R weigh? 17.9lbs, or 8.1kg. That is light for a 20 inch wheel, and at the front axle it is where a saving does the most for how the car feels. Lower gyroscopic resistance sharpens turn-in, and lower unsprung mass gives the dampers less to control over a poor surface.
What rear wheel pairs with this front? The 20×11.5 +40, part FI141, in the same 5×112 FI-R program. A complete staggered set is two of these 20×9 +35 fronts and two 20×11.5 +40 rears. The rear is listed separately in Gloss Platinum, so the set can be built in a single finish.
Will Gloss Platinum show brake dust? A bright finish shows dust sooner than a dark one, which on a car with carbon ceramics is worth knowing. The upside is that dust sits on the surface rather than etching it, so regular washing keeps the finish as delivered. Owners who would rather not see it should look at Satin Black or Diamond Black instead.

About BBS

In 1970, two motor racing enthusiasts from Schiltach in Germany’s Black Forest, Heinrich Baumgartner and Klaus Brand, founded BBS. They started by making lightweight fiberglass body parts to give their own cars a better chance on track. To cut unsprung weight further they developed a three-piece race wheel, which drew the attention of professional teams including BMW Motorsport and grew the company quickly. In 1983 the three-piece RS design arrived and has been one of the most recognized wheels in the industry ever since. Technology through Motorsport has been the company’s mission statement throughout.

BBS builds wheels for cars, trucks and SUVs across three ranges. The Forged Line covers one-piece and two-piece forged designs, the Performance Line covers one-piece and dual-construction flow formed models, and the Design Line covers low pressure cast rims. Design, testing and manufacturing all happen in house, which is how BBS keeps its original equipment programs and its motorsport programs feeding each other.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
