Touring Edition Exhaust

• The Touring Edition Exhaust sits right between refinement and outright aggression. Built as a full 3” T304L stainless downpipe-back system, it’s aimed at drivers who want straight-through performance, a deep and composed tone, and no drone when cruising at highway speeds.
• It uses an integrated front pipe, a purpose-built midpipe resonator, and AWE’s 180 Technology® to manage sound. The result is a full, smooth K20 exhaust note without rasp—something that’s hard to achieve on this platform.
• Under load and boost, it opens up and gets loud in a clean, controlled way. At steady speeds, the cabin stays quiet, so it doesn’t wear you down on longer drives.
• The system is designed specifically for the FK8 Civic Type R, with fitment and check-engine-light considerations already accounted for.
• The 180 Technology® works by directing exhaust gases—and the sound waves they carry—through tuned ports into reflection chambers. These chambers are sized and positioned so that reflected sound waves rejoin the main flow out of phase, effectively canceling the frequencies that cause drone.
• It’s still a straight-through design, so exhaust flow isn’t restricted. You get the performance benefits without the constant low-frequency noise that usually comes with it.

DualPhase Mid Pipe

• The AWE DualPhase Mid Pipe is designed to pair with aftermarket downpipes, improving exhaust flow while keeping the sound composed, and when used with the factory downpipe it maintains a tone that stays close to OEM, smooth and restrained. It helps shape the K20’s exhaust note both inside and outside the cabin, with a more noticeable gain in depth and balance when combined with an upgraded downpipe. It’s available as a standalone upgrade for existing Touring Edition systems or as part of a complete Touring Edition setup with the DualPhase Mid Pipe, depending on the build.

What is 180 Technology?

• AWE’s patented 180 Technology works by routing exhaust gases through a resonator with carefully placed ports that lead into reflection chambers. As sound waves travel with the exhaust flow, they enter these chambers, bounce off the internal walls, and are redirected back toward the main exhaust stream.
• The size and placement of the ports and chambers are tuned for each specific application. This lets engineers control exactly when the reflected sound waves rejoin the exhaust flow. When timed correctly, those returning waves are 180 degrees out of phase, canceling the frequencies that cause drone.
• It’s not a universal design—each system is developed around the acoustic characteristics of a specific engine and chassis. That tuning process is what allows the system to stay consistent across different setups.
• In practice, it removes the low-frequency tones that typically build up in the cabin, while keeping the exhaust free-flowing. The result is a clean, controlled sound without sacrificing performance.

Exhaust Tips

• Each system uses three 4.5-inch double-walled, slash-cut tips, offered in either chrome silver or diamond black, all with a stamped AWE logo. The tips are individually adjustable, so you can fine-tune how far they sit in or out of the bumper to match your preferred fit and look.

Nope, It’s Not Valved

• During development, AWE closely studied how the factory exhaust valve behaves across different driving modes and found little meaningful change in overall volume that would justify keeping it. The valve stays closed only in comfort mode and opens once a certain throttle input is reached, while in Sport and Sport+ it remains open, with Sport+ adding ECU-controlled burbles. In the stock setup, closing the valve routes exhaust through the side mufflers to keep cabin noise and drone in check, while opening it directs flow through the center section.

Conversion Kits

• AWE designed the system so switching between Track and Touring Editions is straightforward if you decide to change the cabin sound level later on.
