Can I keep the soft top with the 7-Point Roll Cage for AP1?

No. Go Tuning, the sole US distributor for Spoon, states that the soft top cannot be used once the 7-Point Roll Cage for AP1 is fitted, and the car needs a hardtop. The hardtop is not part of this listing, so budget for one if the car does not already have it.

Does installation require cutting?

Yes. The forward legs of the cage pass through the dashboard, so the dash must be cut for the tubes to reach their mounting points. This is a permanent change to the interior, which is why the cage suits a car committed to track use rather than a road car that may return to stock.

What tubing is the cage made from?

The cage is built from steel tubing of 40 mm diameter, following the seven-point design Spoon uses in its own race cars. Spoon does not publish a wall thickness or weight for this cage through the sources BA works from, so neither figure is quoted here.

How does it compare with the Spoon 4-point cage?

The 4-point cage is the practical option, working with the factory soft top or a hardtop and needing no dashboard cutting. The 7-point cage extends forward through the dash for a more complete structure, at the cost of the soft top and a permanent interior change. Choose by how the car is used.

Does it fit the AP2 S2000?

No. Spoon and Go Tuning list this 7-point cage for the AP1 only, covering US model years 2000 to 2005. AP2 owners looking for a Spoon cage should look at the 4-point design, which Spoon registers for both the AP1 and the AP2.

Description

Spoon Sports 7-Point Roll Cage for AP1 Honda S2000

The Spoon Sports 7-Point Roll Cage for AP1 Honda S2000 follows the same seven-point design Spoon uses in its own race cars, which makes it a cage for owners who have decided the car is a track tool first. It is built from 40 mm diameter steel tubing, and its forward legs pass through the dashboard, so the dash has to be cut to fit it. That routing is what lets the cage reach further forward than a simple rear hoop, tying the front of the cabin to the rear structure. The trade is practicality. Once installed, the factory soft top can no longer be used, and the car must run a hardtop. For an AP1 that still serves as an open roadster on weekends, the Spoon 4-point cage is the better fit; for a dedicated track build, this is the layout Spoon trusts in competition.

Design and Development

Spoon has raced Hondas since its founding, and its Type One workshop builds and maintains the cars its parts are developed on. Carrying a race car cage design into a customer part means the tube layout has already been proven in the conditions it is meant for, rather than drawn for a showroom. The cage suits the open S2000 body, where a closed roof cannot add stiffness, and the seven mounting points spread loads across the structure.

About Spoon Sports

Spoon Sports was founded in 1988 in Suginami, Tokyo, by Tatsuru Ichishima, a former Honda race car tester and driver, with backing from Honda and Mugen. The company has raced Hondas from its first season, when Ichishima’s own Civic became the first Civic to enter the Japan Touring Car Championship, and its Type One workshop, opened in 2001, services and tunes the cars its parts are developed on. Spoon builds engine, drivetrain, exhaust, chassis and aero parts for Honda models and proves them on circuits and in endurance racing, including the 25 Hours of Thunderhill.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
